## About this lecture

People tend to focus on the United States, the European Union and China when thinking about artificial intelligence, ignoring innovative developments in AI technologies for the public sector emerging from the LAC region. Pombo discusses numerous efforts Latin American and Caribbean countries are making to promote the responsible use of AI. She also shares a few examples of creative uses of AI technologies to address challenges unique to the LAC region. The module concludes with an overview of the tools developed by the Inter-American Development Bank’s fAIr LAC initiative that help bring ethical AI principles into practice.
