Algorithmic Bias and Relativity in AI

By Ken Ito

This module discusses one of the most pressing ethical concerns pertaining to AI: algorithmic bias. Professor Ken Ito investigates the fundamental "relativity" of AI by focusing on various examples from two specific specialties – music and physics. He proposes several possible countermeasures, drawing from several real-world examples such as: Zen Buddhism; Kyu-Do (ancient Japanese archery); productions from artists such as John Cage or the New York Merce Cunningham Dance Company; Principles of Uncertainty in both Quantum Physics and AI.
