## About this lecture

In this module, Amana Raquib will situate and contextualize the ethical discourse around AI within the larger nexus of technology, society and ethics. Looking at the potential of technology both as an expression of human creativity, and as a means for enabling different visions and versions of societies and individuals that can be shaped through various ethical models informing the technological design and development. On the one hand, she will evaluate the ethical and moral dilemmas through evaluating the overall meaningfulness behind the creation and use of technologies, especially AI, in a late-modern age. She’ll then apply the Islamic ethical standards of human well-being (maslaha) and the eventual objective of attaining excellence of human character along with the traditional Islamic hierarchy of necessities, needs and enhancements to look at the role of AI in human life.
