# Responsible Engineering Design and Innovation of AI Systems

A lecture of the course [AI Ethics: Global Perspectives](https://aiethicscourse.org/).

## Lecturer

- Rafael Calvo, Faculty of Engineering, Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London

## About this lecture

Rafael Calvo, Professor at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London, presents the lecture “Responsible Engineering Design and Innovation of AI systems.” As technologies are being developed with the promise to improve people’s lives, engineers should make ethical commitments to users similar to those that health professionals make to patients. As such, there is a need for a strong impact assessment framework for technology development that draws from our basic psychological needs to support well-being and autonomy. In this module, Professor Rafael Calvo describes such a framework – Motivation Engagement and Thriving in User Experience (METUX) – and presents real-world applications of this model.
